Springtown Flag Football was founded to provide the opportunity for boys and girls in our community a chance to play, develop skills and understand comradery. Not only is flag football a great way to improve technique and learn fundamentals of the game that will transfer directly to tackle but it is also helping girls fuel their passion into high school and college. In 2020, women’s flag football became a sanctioned college sport with universities offering scholarships.

As a dad and PE teacher in Springtown ISD, I know the importance of competitive play for our youth as well as the risk for injuries in a full contact sport. Don’t get me wrong, I grew up playing tackle football from a very young age and wouldn’t change that for anything, but as parents, my wife and I decided to keep our son out of tackle until middle school because of the research being conducted on head injuries. We knew there were other parents out there making the same decisions for their kids, so we jumped in feet first to bring flag football to Springtown and the surrounding communities.
